2/18 I know everyone in the north has been having horrible weather, but I am going to whine about our ice storm :) Helloooooo weather????!!! This is NC it is not supposed to look like this!! Our power went out approx 1 am and did not come back on until approx 10:30 am. The staff was cleaning by lantern lights. If we do not have power, we also do not have water. I took some large containers to a friend that had power and filled them with water for the cats. We lost lots of tree limbs but at least did not end up with broken pipes. 2/24 More whining, It is snowing... we are not talking tiny cute little bit of snow, we are talking icky, cold wet snow. They are calling for 4-8 inches. Hellooooo weather??? This is NC, it is not supposed to look like this!!

Cat updates: I was supposed to take the cats (Carrot and Jake) to Raleigh today. Note the key word, supposed to??? It takes typically 1 1/2 hours - 2 hours (depending on how bad the morning traffic is) to get to the vet in Raleigh, I added another 30 minutes for weather. I was outside feeding the horses and pigs at 6:30 and heading out the drive way with the cats at 7 am. Almost an hour later I had made it a huge 25 miles and had counted 9 accidents. NINE! The roads were not that bad, but drivers ... oy vay!!! I lived in Kansas City for 25 years, driving in snow is something I am very familiar with. I know up north you laugh at us with snow in the south. Believe me, I laugh too... I think our road department was surprised by the weather. The roads had not been brined. We do not have the snow removal equipment that they have up north. I stopped at a gas station, called and canceled our appointment, the cats and my life are worth more than putting us in danger. It took me over an hour to get back home. Jake’s next appointment is next Tuesday, Carrot we can not get back in for another month. On the good side, Mack had his radiation treatment yesterday and is doing well. He will come home when the geiger counter clears him. We are hoping for Thursday except we are supposed to get more snow on Thursday (groan) I talk to the vets office and boarding for 2 weeks is built in the price because many people do not want to have to go to the extra work with his litter box that is involved. The first 4 days he is home, you have to put use gloves and double bag the poop, that poop has to be put into a closed container. After 30 days you throw it (the poop) and the container away) (Apparently there is still so much radiation in it, that you have to wait 30 days before throwing it away) The next 10 days you continue using gloves and double bag but you can throw it away normally) The first 4 days you can only handle him for a maximum of 20 minutes, no one under the age of 16 should be handling the cat and so on and so on... No one can sleep with him for the first 2 weeks.. You can see why some would board their cat for the whole 2 weeks

Licorice ended up not losing his eye. He still has a small ulcer on his eye but it appears to have healed. He will just need eye drops for the rest of his life.
