CATS UPDATE
As you all know, Snicker is sick.
The staff noticed he was having difficulty
breathing and I was rushed him to the vet.
He was running 105 fever! My vet called
me 3 hours later and the more she talked
the more horrified I got! I thought to myself
he will die if I leave him there. They said
he kept turning blue (look at the gums)
I asked would he survive the drive to Raleigh
she said she thought so. I told her to get him
ready and send the referrals, tell them I am
coming in as an emergency and I would be there
top pick him up in 15 minutes.
Got him to Raleigh and they took him straight
to the back. Looking at the x-rays from my
vet they said he had fluid in his chest and
asked for permission to tap it (I was thinking
come on!! why haven’t you already done that!)
My vet tapped and got nothing, with x-rays
she still did not get the right spot.
The emergency vet said that it could be cancer,
FIP, pyrothorax. I am sitting there saying
let it be the pryothorax. He can survive that,
the others are fatal. They did the tap
and tested it, it was bacteria and pus,
pyrothorax. Treatable, can still be fatal
but he has a chance.
So for the last week he has had a chest tube
flushing the infection, a feeding tube and lots of
antibiotics.
They did a CT scan yesterday and found pneumonia
in one of his lobes. They are talking possible
surgery.
I have thought about it, talked to other vets, read
up on the procedure and he is not going to have
surgery. I feel deep in my guts that he will die
for sure if we do the surgery.
The vet and I discussed it and they are going to stop
flushing the chest tube and see if he is still
producing pus in his chest. (The fluid earlier
this morning was clear under the microscope)
IF he is not producing pus, he will get the chest
tube removed and he is coming home on Friday.
He will be on antibiotics for a long time
(months) but we have to try it this way first.
I want him home for open house. If he is
going to die, he is going to have one last open
house to be loved on by everyone.
He is active, alert and wants to come home.
I am just praying I am making the right decision.
I am making an informed decision, just hope I not
making an emotional one.
Ray got his eye taken care of, there was ocular tissue
left behind.
I lucked out, Tabitha was going just as a consult and
then I would have to bring her back for surgery. They
came out and said they were not backed up in surgery
and could to Tabitha too if I wanted to go ahead and
have hers done the same day.. YES!!
Tabitha also had ocular tissue left behind. I am going
to just start taking them to Raleigh for eyes unless it
is an emergency.
Autumn is hanging in there. She is going more sniffy,
nasally sounding. Her lung sounds are clear. I suspect
the tumor has gotten larger. The sniffy sounds are
what made us take her to the vet the first time because
it did not clear up after a week of antibiotics. She is
eating and holding her weight.
Nicky has a feeding tube right now for the meds
we are giving him. We are redoing his blood
work on Monday and he will be getting the
needle biopsy next week. I wanted to see what
the blood work would look like after 10 days of
antibiotics. I think he has cancer. I think his
time with us is coming to a close.
Casey is getting new blood work on Monday and
chest x-rays and see where she stands. She
is eating on her own, holding her weight BUT
has not regained as much weight as I would
like to see. She is still on antibiotics and vitamins.
Meet Rusty
This sad looking fellow is Rusty. He came out of the
woods looking for food. Covered with sores, ticks,
full of worms, dehydrated, thin, not neutered (surprise,
surprise, sarcasm fully meant) and drum roll ......
FIV+ Imagine that (more sarcasm) This is
the 4th FIV+ that has shown up looking for help.
I wonder how long he was in the woods before
he found his way to us... As hot as it has been
he would have gotten in trouble without water.
He is such a friendly fellow. This guy loves humans!
I just hope he likes cats as much as he does humans.
He will go into the Sunday room once we no
longer smell the testosterone in his urine. It STINKS!

Looking better already after a week

I don’t have any pictures of her and want to get this
finished and out today :) Also we have not settled
on a name for her. Not overly fond of the name
she came with
