Cat Updates
Snicker is doing well
Boots, Autumn & Casey
are doing well
Wifi had a bad upper respiratory infection.
With antibiotics, he is doing well now.
Greta is doing well, eating on her own.
She still has a feeding tube. She is getting
several antibiotics. It is much easier on both
of us having the feeding tube. She will go back
for Chest X-rays in another week to see if
she is over the pneumonia.
Shelly has asthma. Last week she began having
a severe asthma attack and was taken to the vet.
After a few hours they advised us they felt she
needed to go to Raleigh. Raleigh hospitalized
her in their ICU and she was there for 3 days to
get the asthma under control. $2000 later, she is home.
Asthma is an illness that cats can get just like humans.
Feline asthma-very similar to human asthma-is a chronic
INFLAMMATION of the small passageways of a cat’s lungs.
When an asthma attack occurs, these passageways thicken
and constrict, making it very difficult for a cat to breathe.
This often leads to respiratory distress, which can become
grave in a matter of minutes. The lungs may also begin to
discharge mucus into the airways, leading to fits of coughing
and wheezing. Some cats with milder cases only experience
a slight, chronic cough. Because asthma can quickly become
a life-threatening health problem, any coughing cat needs a
veterinary evaluation.
What Are the General Symptoms of Asthma in Cats?
Coughing and wheezing
Persistent cough
Squatting with shoulders hunched, neck extended and
rapid breathing or gasping for breath
Gagging up foamy mucus
Open mouth breathing
Blue lips and gums
Labored breath after exertion
Overall weakness and lethargy
What Causes Asthma in Cats?
While there are a number of factors that contribute to
asthma in cats, it is thought to develop as a result of allergic
bronchitis. Allergic bronchitis occurs when the AIRWAYS
in a cat's lungs become inflamed due to an inhaled allergen
or other substance that stimulates the immune system.
Approx 1 in 100 cats have asthma - perhaps more, as the
symptoms are often confused with hairballs. If your cats
have any of the symptoms above. Please have your cat
evaluated by your vet.

Did you know cats with asthma get some of their medications
the same way as humans do? They prescribe inhalers for
cats too! How do you use an inhaler with a cat you ask?
You get an Aerokat. The inhaler goes in the end and you
simply put the mask on your cats face and push down the
inhaler. Pretty cool huh?
Meet Midnight
Sweet Midnight is a leukemia positive kitty. He was living outside
being cared for by an elderly caretaker. She, sadly, is having to
go into a nursing home. Her sister (elderly also) stepped in to
take over her sister’s affairs. She got all the outside cats fixed
but Midnight. No rescue was willing to take a leukemia positive
cat. He is friendly, loves cat nip toys but is very scared right
now. He is looking for sponsors, click sponsor me if you

Pepper & the Shoe
Little Pepper is blind & Leukemia positive. Many people do not realize
a blind cat plays just like a seeing cat does. As you can see, Pepper
does. Pepper became blind because he was abandoned as a baby,
and got sick with an upper respiratory infection.
