Cat Updates
Chance has asthma. He has developed
bronchitis. He is on lots of antibiotics and we
expect a full recovery.
Greta has lost her feeding tube. (It
happens) Cats will pull them out, in
this case it was accidentally pulled out
by me when changing her bandaging.
She is eating and doing well. She is
NOT happy about taking medication.
Boots, Holly, Snicker, Casey are all doing well.

Cat bites should be taken very seriously, for they can lead
to difficult-to-treat bacterial infections, according to a new
study by researchers at the Mayo Clinic.
The study found that
almost 1/3 of the
people who sought
treatment at the Mayo
Clinic for a cat bite in a
3 year period had to
be hospitalized!
What should you do if you are bitten?
Immediately wash the wound throughly, lots of soap and
water.
Apply a sterile bandage to the wound.
Apply antibiotic ointment to the area 3 times a day until it
heals.
Watch for any swelling or signs of infection.
CALL YOUR DOCTOR IF:
If the wound is deep you could have nerve or tendon
damage.
If you have diabetes, liver or lung disease or any other
condition that weakens your ability to fight infection.
If you have any signs of infections such as redness,
swelling, warmth, increased tenderness, oozing of pus from
the wound or fever.
If you have bleeding that does not stop after 15 minutes.
If your last tetanus shot was more than 5 years ago.
If you were bitten by a wild animal or a domestic animals
whose vaccination status is unknown.
How to prevent cat bites:
Never leave a young child alone with a pet.
Do NOT try to separate fighting animals, you may get bit
in the process. Try spraying with water instead. (I know I
know, it is hard to not step in, every time I have gotten
bitten I was separating a fight)
Leave animals alone while they are eating.
Avoid sick animals or animals that you don’t know whether
or not they are vaccinated. (I know it is hard to pass up
petting a friendly stray, I do it too!)
Bottom Line, you get bit on the hand by a cat, be prepared
to go to the doctor.
Cat Bites are NOT something
to mess around with!
